Since I first wrote
about the trap I published with PublishAmerica, I have received a lot of
correspondence from authors who asked me whether they should also avoid this
well-known online POD company. So, in response to a letter published by an
unpublished author, I was motivated to write about the five main reasons
someone published their script for this online publisher based in Frederick,
Maryland.
When someone can
go to any search engine like Yahoo or Google and quote the term
"PublishAmerica" or "American Publish" [using quotes get
more results], many writers lend themselves to doing this. This was a big
mistake on their part because they had squandered the manuscript they had been
working on for months or spent years, and had made their money to equip with
legitimate publishers.
The publisher is
a company published online based on an unpublished trio of writers, is a
Dutchman born and raised by Willem Meiners who spoke and wrote in English,
Larry Clopper, a computer programmer, and Miranda Prather, a poet. Unlike
"traditional" mainstream publishers who constantly compare
themselves, these executive staff are under fantasy because they change the
translating industry. Instead of acknowledging on their patriotic-looking
website that they are vanity POD [Print On Demand] publishers with no strict
cash that is only for selling author's books back to their own authors, this
company pretends to say those who radical change
The author, if
you have not agreed to the above to approve the PublishAmerica contract, please
expect the following points:
1. Your book will NOT be stored in an independent chain or bookstore because there are no returns, high cover prices and short discounts.
1. Your book will NOT be stored in an independent chain or bookstore because there are no returns, high cover prices and short discounts.
2. The Publish
America editor team consists of teenagers and young adults who run spelling /
grammar checks on the manuscript, which doesn't mean much if you have used a
standard word processing editing program. They also have non-editing options
that you can choose which will allow your book to be released in a matter of
weeks, not months. Editing for stories, length, characterization, and content
doesn't exist in stable PublishAmerica editing.
3. You will
receive the author's questionnaire where you are asked to reveal up to 100
names of family members, friends, and colleagues. Mentioned: "Also, please
do not include any business or organization, including bookstores, media
contacts, or government organizations. Just include friends and colleagues.
"Why are they so embarrassed to stay away from the media if their real
intention is to SELL books?
4. Twice a year,
March and September, marking the season for a very small royalty check. Think
of the time and effort you made to write your book. Add the $ 30 copyright fee
you pay, the number of books you buy yourself, the amount of money you pay to
get a website and / or any type of online and offline promotional efforts, and
divide it into the amount you receive - usually less than $ 20 !
5. Look at the
number of authors and support writers out there who wrote about what the
PublishAmerica scam really is. Not just one or two unsatisfied writers, but
hundreds of them. On top of the Absolute Write Forum we have more than 900
pages of Never Ending Publish America threads. Mindsight and Writers Net also
have a huge amount of web space dedicated to warning and educating people about
the weakness of being a Publish America writer.
And finally,
think of the time frame of the seven-year long contract that Publish America
offers. In some states, you can commit a fairly bad crime and get less prison
time than that! Perhaps a more appropriate slogan is: PublishAmerica,
imprisoning the author of one book at a time!
